THCA Laws in North Carolina β Full Breakdown
North Carolina has one of the longest-running and most active hemp programs in the country, having legalized hemp cultivation in 2015 ahead of the federal Farm Bill. The state follows the federal delta-9 THC standard for hemp compliance, meaning THCA content alone does not disqualify a product.
2025 regulations require mandatory lab testing for hemp products, with results reported for both delta-9 THC and a calculated total THC figure. However, the legal compliance threshold remains delta-9 THC only β the total THC figure is for transparency, not enforcement. All testing labs must be state-certified.
Age 21 and older is required for hemp-derived product purchases in North Carolina. The state does not have recreational marijuana, making hemp the primary legal channel for THCA flower. North Carolina has one of the most well-established hemp retail markets in the Southeast.

What Is THCA and Why Does Legality Matter?
THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the raw, non-psychoactive form of THC found in fresh cannabis. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp plants containing β€0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight are federally legal β regardless of THCA content. When THCA is smoked or vaped, heat converts it to psychoactive delta-9 THC through a process called decarboxylation.
Some states have added "total THC" standards that count THCA toward the THC limit. Others have banned smokable hemp specifically. The legal status of THCA varies by state and is subject to change as legislatures continue to address hemp regulations.
All Leaflyx products are federally compliant hemp with COA documentation.
